
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just announced a safety recall covering 295,123 vehicles, a pair of Subaru models and a close relative from Saab. The recall concerns front control arms that may fail if corroded, making the vehicle difficult to control. Go back a few years ago to when Saab and Subaru were the quirky stepchildren in the General Motors family. That was before GM sold its stake in both, and when the beancounters in Detroit wanted to try something different. They took a Subaru Impreza wagon/hatchback, gave it some new bodywork and presto! the Saab 9-2x was born.

Production of the all-new 2011 Saab 9-4X crossover has started on schedule, despite the company’s crippling financial woes. While production of the rest of the Saab lineup at its Trollhattan, Sweden plant has ground to a cash-strapped halt, 9-4Xs are rolling off the assembly lines in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.
The plant producing the latest Saab is under contract to the Swedes from GM, and with any luck will help jumpstart a recovery. Under its very Swedish skin, the Saab 9-4X packs the same underpinnings as the 2011 Cadillac SRX. Read More »

Saab appears to have beaten its short-term cash crunch (for now), making this as good a time as any to celebrate 25 years of Saab convertibles. The Swedish automaker has built 300,000 droptops since the first Saab 900 convertible hit the scene in 1986 as a 1987 model, giving the automaker a foothold in the luxury convertible market.
