Audi has released the first handful of (CG-enhanced) pics of the A2 Concept bound for next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and it’s not bad – assuming you’re partial to your refrigerator.
Appliance-inspired styling aside, the A2 is Audi’s answer to the BMW i3, but is rumored to arrive two years after BMW’s premium EV in 2013.

Lexus may have debuted the 2012 GS 350 as part of last week’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance festivities in California, but the automaker isn’t quite done with the rollout of its new rear-wheel-drive sedan. Diesel-lovin’ Audi is slowly, slowly coming to grips with this whole hybrid thing. Earlier this year, the “We’re not against hybrids” automaker finally gave out some real information about its hybrid Q5 (after years of teases and killing the program once,) and we saw the A6 hybrid at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Today, Audi is making good on the promise it made at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010 when it showed off a thinly disguised hybrid A8 concept. Read More »

Cadillac has just announced that the production version of its 2009 Detroit Auto Show show star, the Converj Concept, is on the way. Dubbed ELR and borrowing technology from the Chevrolet Volt, the on-again, off-again angular coupe had been rumored anew in the last few days. There are plenty of numbers between three and eight, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that BMW’s recently unveiled i sub-brand will expand after the i3 and i8 go on sale in the next two to three years.
A few reports and our own sources indicate that the next two models will be the i4 and i5; a smaller coupe and a family focused four-door.
Both models will be based around the carbon fiber reinforced plastic “Life” structure to keep weight in check and use variations of the drivetrains fitted to the i3 and i8.

Nissan’s on-again, off-again MX-5 Miata rival is… on again, at least according to the blokes at Auto Express. What form a potential two-door sporty coupe from Nissan may take – if it happens at all – is still widely debatable; it could be as simple as a cut-down Sentra or as crazy as a sporty take on the all-electric Leaf.
Did that last little tidbit catch you off guard? Remember that Nissan showed off just such a machine in the form of the Esflow Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, though we wouldn’t expect any potential production model to share much with that highly conceptual design.
