Chevy announces all-electric Spark EV city car for U.S.

Looks like there was a good reason that Chevrolet dropped the “More car than electric” tagline for its Chevy Volt. That anti-EV phrase was always short-sighted, and the reason why was announced this morning in Detroit. General Motors has revealed that in addition to selling its global Chevy Spark mini car in the U.S. next year, an all-electric version called the Spark EV will be joining it in 2013.

Hennessey announces 20th Anniversary HPE650 Supercharged Camaro

What do John Entwistle, Rutherford B. Hayes, Hugh Jackman and Hennessey Performance Engineering all have in common? Very little, we imagine, outside of celebrating October birthdays.

HPE is turning 20 this month, giving the Texas-based tuner the perfect excuse to build a celebratory Camaro. The company blog tells us the 20th Anniversary Edition HPE650 Camaro will be limited to 20 black over black examples, and yes, that “650″ in the model name is an indication of horsepower. The lofty number is achieved by fitting a supercharger, new heads, a new cam, headers, and intake and exhaust upgrades. HPE says their mods are good for 655 horsepower at 6,300 rpm, which is enough to push the Camaro to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

2011-2012 Chevrolet Corvette recall hatched over faulty hinges

General Motors is recalling 5,755 2011-2012 Chevrolet Corvette coupes for potentially faulty hatch hinges that could break loose in a crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the rear hatch hinges on Vettes built between January and September don’t meet federal weight capacity requirements.

The recall was scheduled to start on Oct. 7. According to the recall, dealers will notify owners of the recall and inspect and replace both hinges for free as necessary. Hit the jump for a press release. Read More »


Unique 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 auctioned at Barrett-Jackson

General Motors auctioned off a special 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to the public at this weekend’s Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction for an estimated price of $250,000. Proceeds from the sale go to the YMCA of Southern Nevada, so the winner shouldn’t feel guilty about laying down the heavy cash on what will inevitably become a highly collectible automobile. The car in question will be the 69th ZL1 produced, and will be the only one finished in the Carbon Flash Metallic exterior color.

GM proposes $380M investment in St. Louis plant for midsize pickup and van

Whenever a new contract between the United Auto Workers and a major automaker is being hashed out, interesting tidbits regarding future products seem to leak out. Such is the case with the barely finalized deal between General Motors and the UAW. A report from stltoday.com indicates that General Motors is negotiating with local union leaders from the Wentzville, Missouri plant to add 1,850 new workers and a second shift to build a midsize pickup truck.

About a year before General Motors entered bankruptcy, various reports claimed that the automaker postponed the next generation of the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado from 2012 to an unknown future date. It wasn’t big news at the time, since the well-liked trucks were only two years into their production cycles, not to mention that high gas prices were limiting the appeal of trucks for recreational buyers.
