Audi’s 2.5-liter turbo five has shown remarkable potential. It powers the RS3 hot hatch, the new TT RS, the Volkswagen Golf24 endurance racer and was shoehorned into the A1 Clubsport Quattro concept. Now, word has it that this delicious powerplant will be dropped into the Q3 crossover to make for a new Q3 RS.

When the Audi A1 first came out around this time last year, Senner Tuning was among the first to take a crack at it. That was with the 1.6-liter TDI model, but now the German tuning house has come back with a more comprehensive modification of the A1 with Audi’s 1.4 TFSI.
By tweaking the fuel system, air box and exhaust, Senner has boosted output from 120 horsepower up to 165 – not quite the 185-hp output of the pseudo-S1 model (nevermind the 500hp Clubsport show car), but considerably more than anything else in the A1 catalog.
The package is rounded out with white 19-inch alloys coated in low-profile rubber, riding on an adjustable suspension setup. The brown metallic paint job is offset by the white trim on the roof pillars and door mirrors as well, with a full aero kit for a more aggressive look. The interior has also been decked-out with a range of electronic gizmos, a multi-function steering wheel and two-tone black and beige leather upholstery.

Over the past few years, Audi has teased us with a number of reasons to think that the automaker’s next-generation A2 may be offered with an electric-only powertrain, or maybe with some type of plug-in hybrid option.
Back in March, the rumormill blazed with reports that the upcoming “state-of-the-art” A2 will tip the scales at a scant 1,800 pounds. Here’s hoping such a low weight target doesn’t imply that Audi’s use of unobtanium materials will interrupt the debut of the A2.

Report: Volkswagen Group’s roadster program coming into focus
Filed under Audi, Convertibles, Others, Porsche, Volkswagen 02-06-2011
These days, an auto giant like the Volkswagen Group can hardly justify a new platform unless it can amortize the cost across numerous variants. Fortunately, VW has enough brands in its portfolio to do exactly that.
Just as the same platform underpins the Volkswagen Polo, Audi A1, Skoda Fabia and Seat Ibiza (none of which, of course, are available in North America), and another underpins the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, so will the company’s next mid-engine roadster platform be distributed into numerous models across the corporate tree. The project has been several years in the making, but as development speeds towards production, Autocar has some details on what to expect.

Got a hankering to own an Audi from the beginning of the Aughts? If you’re hunting for an example that wears a model badge with the number “6,” you might want to have a mechanic take a look its nipples. More specifically, make sure the rollover valve in the fuel system has been given proper attention, otherwise the nipple can become cracked and lead to fuel winding up on the ground instead of feeding the engine.
